Blu Ray or sometimes called Blue Ray is a superior digital storage medium that can store HD or high definition video data. Officially it was released to the public on 2006 after a few years of development by Blu-Ray Disc Association which makes up of many big name manufacturers like Philips, Samsung and Sony. As the name implies, the blu-ray players use a blue optical laser to read the data from discs and made playing the familiar DVD formats possible on these players.

In this post, we provide you some useful instructions on how you can convert blu-ray disc content to the standard DVD format by simply connecting your DVD recorder to your blue-ray player and following some simple steps.

What you will need before you can start this data transfer:

  • Blu Ray player
  • DVD recorder
  • Composite Connection cable
  • Blank DVD discs
  • TV

1. First, connect your blue ray player to your DVD recorder. Most devices nowadays use S-video connection so connect the S-Video output behind your blue-ray player to the S-Video input of the DVD-recorder. In the event that you are using older models that do not support S-video connection, then use the composite cables which are the colored red, white and yellow cables. Note that yellow cable is for video signal and the red and white ones are used for audio channels.

2. Make sure that your DVD recorder is connected to your television set, ensuring that the DVD output connections go to the input connections behind the TV set.

3. Use your TV remote control to find the input select button and press this button until you are able to see the DVD standard default image appearing. You may want to get some help from your manufacturer’s handbook if you run into difficulties.

4. Place a blue-ray disc into the blue-ray player and press the “play”

5. On your DVD recorder, look for and select the input connection that corresponds to similar connection from the blue-ray player. Select the correct input option by making reference to your DVD recorder user guide. If the correct selection is made you can then see the video being played on your television.

6. Make preparation to do the recording by pausing the video for short while until you are ready for recording. Place a blank recordable DVD into your DVD recorder and press the record button on your recorder. Now release the pause and start play on your blu-ray player. You are now doing recording of the blue ray movie onto the blank DVD disc.

7. When the movie ends, just press the stop button on the DVD recorder. You have just successfully copied the movie in blu-ray format to DVD format.
