With the increasing interest in HD
DVD and Blue Ray technology and the availability of both HD
and Blue Ray formats, you do need to understand the main differences. This is
key in not just getting the best deals in HD DVD
players or Blue Ray DVD players but
choosing the right one goes a long way to ensure that you keep abreast of
newer developments to come for your total entertainment benefits.
HD DVD Players and Blue Ray DVD Players–
What’s the difference
Well both are high definition (HD) disc players that
play either high definition format or blu ray format and these high
definition signals go through your HDTV to display the true HD
pictures for your entertainment. Because they are completely different
format, you will not be able to use either one disc to play on the other type
of player. To put this simply, this means that a HD DVD disc
will not be able to play on a blue ray player and vice
versa. There are however a few players in the market that play both formats
but they are rather expensive and out of the reach of the average
viewer.
Which Movie Studios Make More
Movies
You will have to decide whether you wish to view
your movies in either HD DVD or Blue Ray format and to help
you make this choice, you may like to know that certain Hollywood Studios
make their movies in either one format while a few others make both formats.
For example Disney and Sony make them using Blue Ray format only
while Warner Bros put out their movies in both formats i.e. high definition
DVD and Blue Ray DVD titles. So you may decide to buy either a
HD DVD player or a Blue Ray DVD player depending on
who is carrying the most movie titles.
Your Budget
Blue Ray DVD players cost more than
HD DVD players and the quality is supposed to be better as well.
However it has been said that the average viewer is not able to tell any big
difference nor is he willing to pay a premium for such a small noticeable
difference
Ethernet Connection
Both HD DVD players and Blue Ray DVD
players have an Ethernet connection capability at the back of the
players for Internet connectivity. The cool thing about this is that the
drivers in these machines act like those of computers and need to update
themselves so as to allow newer discs to be compatible to the machines
especially for games functionality.
Conversion of Standard Definition
Movies
Another cool feature of both HD DVD
players and Blue Ray DVD players is that both have the capability of
up-converting standard definition movies to play on your HD TV. So this means
that you can continue to watch your DVD movies in either HD DVD Players or
Blue Ray DVD players.
